[just in] Statue of Liberty’s Crown to Reopen

Exciting news everyone!

After closing for refurbishment, for safety reasons, the Statue of Liberty crown will reopen just in time for its’ 126th year anniversary, on the 28th October.

The 2001 closure was brought on by the federal government after the 9/11 attacks, to improve the fire and safety management system, should there be an attack on the statue (God forbid!). The government has then closed it down several more times for further safety improvements. Till now.

I had the privilege of visiting the infamous statue for the first time, 7 years ago. I was a very disappointed that I didn’t get to wander around the reserve or crown, let alone the torch. The infamous torch where Magneto and Rouge were battling in X-Men. I only got to walk around the grounds.

Well it won’t happen again next time I visit, as the government plans to complete ALL renovations and fully reopen in early 2013, ready for my visit. The government timed that well.

So for those of you who are in New York or planning to go to New York after the 28th of this month (don’t tell me who you are as I’ll be extremely jealous of you!!), you can get your hands on limited tickets through Statue Cruises.

Enjoy it!
