If you only had 24 hours in San Francisco, I feel sorry for you and I need you to schedule in more time on your next flight through this beautiful city.
Start your day with a cuppa from Blue Coffee Café at the Ferry Building. If you’re in town on either a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday, you can grab a cuppa AND poke and prod the fresh produce available. Remember to get a big feed for the day.
Walk (or take a trolley) towards Pier 39, stopping at The Exploratorium for some science-y fun. It’s adult-friendly and full of fantastic exhibits. Visit the gift shop for some pretty nifty toys.
After you’ve had your fun with the toys, head over to see the resident sea lions at Pier 39. They’ve made themselves at home and make a helluva noise. Walk around and check out the stores but don’t eat anything just yet, save the stomach space for some baked-to-perfection sourdough at Boudin Bakery at the Wharf.
Once you’ve finished licking off the clam chowder off your fingers, venture over to The Buena Vista Cafe for dessert (Irish coffee) and Ghirardelli Square for some more dessert (ice cream). Pick from the many flavours available, I went for the chocolate. Call me boring, whatever. Take a doggy bag, you may need some sugar for your walk.
Ride the trolley to Nob Hill where you will get a nice view of the city skyline and all the steep hills and you’ll wander how the people can walk those hills every single day.
Head towards the Golden Gate Bridge; walk/ride it and admire the view of the Bay and the AWESOMENESS of the structure. Every time I see photos of the Bridge, I miss it all over again. Beware of the curfew hours if you don’t want to get stuck on the other side and you want to be back on the Bay side to capture photos as the sun sets.
Put on the evening dress and head back to downtown for dinner. Choose from one of these, but for a treat, head to Salt House (for the set menu) or Waterbar (for the oysters). Continue the night with some bar hopping starting at the W (say hi to *E for me).
You’ll probably have met some awesome people at the previous places, so just go with the flow.
